Ekiti Couple Apprehended for Burglary, N3 Million Worth of Stolen Goods Retrieved
Ekiti State Police Command detectives apprehended a married couple, Mr. Ajayi Opeyemi and Asake Opeyemi, specializing in burglary. Stolen goods valued at approximately N3 million Naira were recovered from their possession.
Addressing the media at the Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, Commissioner of Police CP Dare Ogundare disclosed that the couple, considered habitual burglars, was apprehended in Eyin-Ogbe quarters, Aramoko-Ekiti, located in Ekiti West local government area. The arrests were made by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives attached to the command following credible information provided by residents on September 22, 2023.
The police chief explained that the couple had broken into more than five houses and shops owned by different individuals in the community, stealing various items. They were subsequently apprehended at a criminal hideout within the community.
During interrogation, the husband, a carpenter and father of two, portrayed himself as a victim of circumstances. Ajayi admitted to the crimes and stated that the stolen goods were discovered in his wife's shop. He explained that his wife often transported the stolen items to nearby markets for sale.
Among the items recovered from the suspects by the police were 400 pieces of jean trousers, shirts, short knickers, jackets, face caps, underwear, a significant quantity of women's accessories and lingerie, assorted wines, provisions, and foodstuffs, valued at around N3 million.
The CP noted that the detained suspects are currently assisting the police with further information. He assured that once the investigation is completed, the couple will be arraigned in court.
