 Adam Johnson, a forward for the Nottingham Panthers, tragically passed away after a severe neck injury caused by a skate during a Challenge Cup match against the Sheffield Steelers. 

The incident occurred in the 35th minute, leading to the game's suspension as paramedics provided emergency treatment on the ice. 

The Nottingham Panthers expressed their devastation over this unforeseen accident and highlighted Johnson's outstanding qualities as both a hockey player and a person. 

They extended their condolences to his family, partner, and friends during this challenging time.

 The Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) postponed Sunday's matches across the UK in light of this heartbreaking news. Fellow players, fans, and various teams paid their respects to Johnson, who had previously played in the NHL before joining the Nottingham Panthers. 

Sheffield Wednesday, another local sports team, observed a minute's silence in his memory. The NHL and Johnson's former clubs also shared their condolences, and local MPs expressed their sympathy for the city and the wider ice hockey community.
