NECO announces common entrance results: 76 achieve 203, 6 score 01.


According to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Andrew Adejo, six students achieved the lowest score of 01 in the 2023 National Common Entrance Examinations conducted by the National Examinations Council. Adejo provided a breakdown of the scores in Abuja on Wednesday.

A total of 72,865 pupils registered for the exams, compared to 71,738 in 2022. Lagos State had the highest number of registrations with 18,644, while Taraba had the lowest with 102. In terms of gender, there were 38,801 female registrants and 34,064 male registrants, indicating progress in bridging the gender gap. Out of the registered students, 69,829 actually sat for the examination, while 3,036 were absent. The highest score achieved by any student was 203, with 76 pupils attaining this score.

During the announcement, Adejo expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in making the examination a success, including the examination council, monitors, markers, and the press. He noted that the conduct of the exam was smooth, indicating improvements in NECO's delivery of examinations.

Adejo also acknowledged the significance of Federal Unity Colleges, which have become the preferred choice for many parents in the country. He acknowledged the challenges faced in terms of infrastructure development, feeding, and teacher quality but assured that the federal government is working diligently to improve conditions for effective teaching and learning in schools.
