At Last Coolio Is Sentenced
Coolio has been pleading guilty for possession of a concealed weapon since in court on Wednesday. Coolio—real name, Artis Leon Ivey—was charged after he getting arrested in September for having a firearm in his backpack at the Los Angeles International airport.
The "Gangsta's Paradise" rapper won't face time behind bars, but he is sentenced to three years of probation as well as 45 days of community service. If he is able to stay out of trouble for the next year, the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor.
"A mistake was made, it was a misunderstanding," Coolio told the court. "And I do not condone the use of firearms, legal or illegal. Thanks to the court and the attorneys handling this for me so I can still do the work that I do."
Reports have it that that night as the judge was ending the hearing, he turned to Coolio and complimented his new hairstyle. "You have a different little hair style," the judge said. "It fits you.".
In 2013 Coolio faced a misdemeanor charge of battery constituting domestic violence after being arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Anabella Chatman. Before that, in 2012, he was put behind bars for multiple traffic violations after being pulled over while riding passenger in a friend's car in Las Vegas.
He plead guilty to one felony drug charge and misdemeanor counts of battery and possession of a smoking device, but instead of going to jail, he was ordered to complete an 18-month drug diversion education and treatment program.
