Many injured as OPC factions clash in Lagos
According to a report by Daily Trust, Many people were injured yesterday in a gun battle between people to be factional members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) in the Surulere area of Lagos.
The cause of the disagreement was not clear at press time, but witnesses said it might not been unconnected with rallies organized by members of various political parties in the city.
Some of the armed hoodlums were said to have robbed members of the public, while others smashed windscreens of vehicles that were stuck in traffic.
“They vandalized vehicles while others snatched bags and mobile phone sets as they moved from one area to the other. At the National Stadium, they engaged in a free for all, using bottles and clubs as weapons”, a witness said.
Police spokesman, Kenneth Nwosu, however said it was a minor incident involving political thugs.
He said anti-riot policemen were sent to quell the crisis to avoid spreading to other areas.
“It is not an issue to worry about, normalcy has returned the area. The police are capable of curtailing any violence in the state”, he added.
