Man Intercepted By NDLEA At Kano Airport with 25kg of Ephedrine

The National Drug Enforcement Agency - NDLEA  has arrested a 59 year old man with 25kg of substance tested to be ephedrine ( a medication and stimulant) while trying to board an ethiopian airline from the Amino Kano International Airport to South Africa.

According to NDLEA , Ephedrine (EPH) or pseudoephedrine (PSE) or drug products containing these substances have chemicals used in the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine.

The spokesperson for NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, made a statement in Abuja that Christopher Chukwuani , a fish farmer was intercepted at the departure waiting lounge based on intelligence.

The suspect who had already gone through screening, was arrested following a tip-off. He further said that when the substance was detected, it was tested and found to be positive for ephedrine. and NDLEA has sprung into action, investigating the case since the arrest on July 15, 2017 Umoru stated.

The NDLEA spokesperson also alleged that the 59 year old Enugu based fish farmer said he smuggles drugs in order to expand his fish farming business. The suspect is said to  be married with three children.

The suspect alledged that he was promised the sum of $2, 000 dollars and he intends using the funds to expand his business.

NDLEA chairmain, retired Col. Muhammad Abdallah stressed the importance of intelligence in the fight against drug trafficking in Nigeria.  Stating that "effective drug control is predicated on excellent intelligence management.  also that this case is a validation of the cardinal role of good intelligence gathering and processing. 

The case however is being investigated and further information shall be provided to members of the public stating that more arrest in connection withe seizure are in the offing and the suspect will soon be charged to court he said.
