PROTEST AS JIMI AGBAJE WINS PDP GUBERNATORIAL TICKET FOR LAGOS
Jimi Agbaje was declared winner of the Lagos PDP governorship primaries in Lagos amid protest.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the protests followed due to the difference in the number of votes cast and the number of delegates that voted.
The chairman of the PDP Governorship Committee for Lagos State, Senator Umar Kumo, announced 863 as the number of votes cast as against 806 delegates that voted. this resulted to the protest. despite the attempt made by other aspirants to stop the vote count and cancel the primaries it was however not successful.
Senator Musliu Obanikoro, an aspirant, walked out of the venue when the committee was unable to explain the difference in numbers.
Kumo has 432 votes while Obanikoro had 343 votes, other aspirant Adedeji Doherty got 21 votes, BabaTunde Gbadamosi got 21 votes, Yokumboh Kamson has 46 votes while the only female aspirant in the contest, Modupe Chukwuneke stepped down shortly before the voting stated .
Newsmen spoke with the aspirants and they all expressed their disappointment in the result.Obanikoro said he would appeal the outcome of the election as it is a shame that the committee can not explain the difference in the number of votes and the number of delegates. Gbadmosi also said the election was a sham.
However, Agbaje commended the committee over the conduct of the election and promised to carry all the other aspirants along.
