Nigerian-American man claims government took his father's Banana Island ownership.



Remi Adeleke, a Nigerian-American filmmaker, has claimed that his father owned Banana Island, a prestigious residential area in Lagos, until the Nigerian government allegedly seized it. Celebrating US Independence Day, Remi shared on Twitter that his father left Nigeria as a young adult to study in the UK. Upon returning with the intention of establishing a "World Trade Center/African Wall Street," his father faced the loss of his assets, including the man-made island now known as Banana Island. Remi revealed that his father passed away mysteriously while fighting to regain his properties, resulting in their family's transition from wealth to poverty. Eventually, Remi and his brother relocated to the US, seeking better education and opportunities for a brighter future.
