Man allegedly murdered wife, consumed her brains in tacos, and repurposed skull as ashtray.
In Mexico, a man believed to be a "devil worshipper" has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife, dismembering her body, and consuming her brain in tacos. The suspect, identified as Alvaro, was apprehended on July 2 in Puebla. He claimed that he committed the crime under the influence of a prohibited substance and stated that he was commanded by Santa Muerte and the devil. The victim, Maria Montserrat Animas Montiel, a mother of five, had her remains placed in plastic bags, with some discarded in a nearby ravine and the rest kept inside their residence.
As per sources familiar with the case, it has been reported that the suspect admitted to consuming his wife's brain in tacos and utilizing fragments of her shattered skull as an ashtray.
Approximately two days after the incident, he allegedly contacted one of his stepdaughters to confess the crime.
The victim's mother, Maria Alicia Montiel Serran, shared in an interview with local media, stating, "He informed one of her daughters to come and retrieve her mother because 'I already killed her and put her in bags'."
A grieving Maria Alicia further disclosed that Alvaro dismembered the body of the 38-year-old victim using a machete, chisel, and hammer.
She expressed her anguish, saying, "I called him crying, asking why he did that to her if she wasn't a bad person."
According to Maria Alicia's account, the suspect confessed to the brutal act, admitting that he killed his wife, dismembered her, and disposed of her body in bags, throwing them into a nearby ravine. He claimed that she did not suffer during the ordeal.
Maria Montserrat, who had been married to Alvaro for less than a year, had five daughters, aged between 12 and 23. The two youngest daughters lived with the couple and reportedly experienced violence and sexual harassment from their stepfather, as alleged by their grandmother.
The victim's family asserted that Alvaro, a builder, had issues with substance abuse and was frequently violent towards his wife. The family observed that both the victim and the suspect frequently shared posts about their worship of Santa Muerte on social media, and the police discovered a black magic altar in their residence.
Due to ongoing investigations and the search for remaining body parts, the victim's family has been unable to properly lay Maria Montserrat to rest. They are demanding justice and the opportunity to provide her with a dignified farewell.
The case is currently being investigated by the Puebla Prosecutor's Office.
