Idris Elba was to portray the character of James Bond, but his interest changed when the role shifted towards race.
Idris Elba recently discussed his feelings about being considered for the role of James Bond, revealing that it had always been an honour to him. In an interview on the SmartLess podcast, he expressed his initial excitement and how being asked to play Bond was seen as reaching the pinnacle in the acting world.
However, Elba mentioned that while most people were thrilled by the idea, there were some who made it a negative experience by turning it into a discussion about race.
He described these negative reactions as disgusting and off-putting, as it detracted from the genuine compliment he had initially received. As for the future of the Bond franchise, there is currently no script, and it will take time to reinvent the character, with filming expected to be at least two years away.
