Mc Osh Is Our #MCM This Week | Read Our Interview With Him As He gives Insight On What It's Like Mc'ing In UK

Good day, it’s a pleasure to have this conversation with you.so can you tell us a bit more about yourself and your background?
Hi, my name is Oshoma Zekeri popularly known as Zek also known as L.O.G and Mc Osh. I am from Edo State, Nigeria but reside in the United Kingdom. I come from a family of six and I am the 3rd child of the family. I grew up in Nigeria where I schooled and obtained a BSc. Biochemistry from a private University (Bowen University). I decided to further my education and obtained a masters degree in Safety Health and Environmental Mgt in Cardiff, United Kingdom. I am currently working for Financial Service as the Regional Health and Safety Manager. I am a UK Mc and anchor varieties of event such as Corporate, weddings, birthday’s anniversaries etc.  I am also an entrepreneur and a gospel artist.

What have you been up to in recent times?
Wow, this is quiet a tricky one because I have been involved in alot lately. For example I have travelled around the country lately anchoring various type of events. As an enterpreneur, I am working on a massive project that would impact our generation most especially within the event circle. I am working on some gospel songs and should release a track later this year. I am partnering  with some delegates in Nigeria on a project that would impact youths. I also work Mon - Fri with my day to say work activities . This is just a few but I am grateful to God for such a platform and opportunity to impact my world.

What is it like mc’ing in the UK
To be an Mc in the UK is not easy due to the fact that there are other Mc’s in the UK that have been in the system for a long period of time. I will use the word they are “Popular” but the truth is there is market for everyone and if you play your cards right and you are good at what you do then sky is the limit. I think your uniqueness and style stands out and it raises the bar for you to excel. Also you need to understand the market and the needs of clients. For example, you cannot just close your eyes and go to the market to buy anything; you must know what you are buying before paying for it. As a Mc you must understand what a clients expectations are and do whatever it takes to surpass that expectation. I have been mc’ing for over 9 years but took it really serious 3 years ago and you will be amazed how much I have grown in the industry and business is booming.

Is this like your passion or just a means to an end?
I think I am a unique being with a great sense of humor and I am grateful to God about that. I have got raw talents such as singing, acting and dancing which makes my work so easy for me and brings out the best in me when I host events. I don’t see mc’ing as a means to an end, it is a passion; a unique talent and that is why I enjoy what I do. I remember back in school, I was the social director for my department and I brought so much fun and life into the department and did a few mc’ing. In the UK, I and a few friends organized the first ever Nigeria Independence party at the University of South Wales and it was a huge success. I love being part of social event including the planning phase lol. I enjoy every moment during an event and it has never felt like a job but more like having fun.

What can you say is the most glamourous thing about your job?
I think the most glamorous thing about mc’ing is satisfying the client and being part of a huge success, union and anything of great course. For example, I Mc a lot of weddings and just enjkoy seeing the joy and happiness on the couple's face, it gives me so much boost to continually play a part in people’s lives.

What makes the difference in your shows that others do not have?
The reason why my shows and events are different from others is my professionalism, uniqueness and passion.  As my Pastor (Pastor Chris Oyakhilome) will always say: In all you do be excellent in it and that excellence has taking me far too where I am today.

As an mc ,I’m sure you’re familiar with the African time, how do you handle situations when time is not kept to and how does it affect your work
Laughing!!! Its quiet sad that even in the UK we African’s  still do African time but the truth is no matter what time an event starts, it is always a success. I am always at an event latest an hour or two before presumed start time to enable me go through the programme for the day with vendors and how we can work collaboratively. I work in a fast paced environment Mon-Fri and got project management skills so this helps me micro-manage my time to meet the client’s expectation. I am used to it so it doesn’t really affect me to be honest but I always advice client prior to an event of the importance of time and in most cases, the clients are usually on time.

What kind of advice would you give to a newbie who is just entering into the world of mc?
My advice to Newbie's is that the market is big enough for everyone and all you need to do is first believe in yourself, be unique and never doubt your ability to be successful. Every client is not really looking for most popular but looking for the best and until you believe in yourself you can never be successful. Work hard to be the best and the rest is history.
What would be your dream event to mc in
Wow, hmmm I think one of my dream events would be anchoring an event where the Queen of England and/or presidents are present or an event that would positively impact millions of lives around the world.

If you had the opportunity to have any other mc cover your event, who would it be and why?
I don’t think my mind would be at rest if I have another Mc cover my event not because they are not good but because I feel there is no another me and no one can act like me. However, I have met Mc’s around the world and attended programmes but there is one I can count on anytime and that is Mc Kevwe Ogunji, he is one other person I know is passionate about his work and destined for great things.
Thanks you for the interview today; It’s been a pleasure and I must say I enjoy going on your blog daily because there is so much information around the world to read.

Thank You.
