Harlem city in Newyork, names 20th October to be Lupita Nyong’o day
Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o has added another feather to her cap by having a day dedicated to her in a New York City neighbourhood.
The Kenyan screen star announced on Instagram that October 20 had been declared Lupita Nyong'o Day in Harlem. The day was dedicated to her by US Representative for New York's 13th congressional district congressman Charles Rangel.
"October 20th declared Lupita Nyong'o Day in Harlem?! My heart is swollen with the love and welcome I just received from the Harlem Community at @MIST_harlem @michaelaangelad #EclipsedPlay #HarlemWorld @publictheaterny THANK YOU," she wrote.
Since the 1920s, Harlem has been known as a major African-American residential, cultural and business centre.
