The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Sokoto State Command, Sunday decried the rate at which married women are involved in drug abuse.

The Assistant Superintendant in charge of Exhibit in the command, Ali Baba Mustapha, made the disclosure during the Jigawa Day celebration organised by indigenes of the state at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
He expressed concern at the way married women take cough syrups that contain codeine more than any segment of the society, with the belief that it would enhance their sexual appetite.
Mustapha described as untrue the erroneous belief that cough syrups enhance sexual appetite among women.

According to him, if the ugly development remained unchecked, it could lead to marital problems and divorce.
He also dismissed the notion that illicit drugs could help students during examination, saying it would rather render them confused and ineffective.
In a remark, the outgoing Chairman of Jigawa State Students Association, Musa Isiyaku Birnin Kudu, called on the executive members of the association to consolidate on his achievements and come up with programmes that would improve the conditions of their members.
Also speaking, the new chairman of the association, Mubarak Turaki Hadeja, assured members of the association that he would do everything possible to justify the confidence reposed on him.
