Mum tries to kill her newborn baby after giving birth in amusement arcade toilet
The baby, named April by nurses at Ormskirk Hospital, was found in the toilet by staff at Silcock's arcade in Southport A mum accused of trying to kill her newborn baby moments after giving birth to her in an amusement arcade toilet has appeared in court. Nicola Glover, 30, gave birth to the baby girl in a disabled toilet at Silcock's arcade in Southport, Merseyside, on Thursday, April 16. The baby, named April by nurses at Ormskirk Hospital, was later found in the toilet by staff. Glover, of Prescot in Merseyside, was located on Friday after a public appeal. She appeared before South Sefton Magistrates' Court in Bootle today charged with attempted murder and child cruelty. Wearing a pink top and beige trousers, redhead Glover confirmed her name, date of birth and address. The case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court to be dealt with because of the serious nature of the charges. A preliminary hearing will take place on May 6. An application for bail was refused and no pleas were entered. Baby April was last week ordered into the care of Sefton Council. She was discharged from hospital on Monday and is said to be doing well. Her survival was described as "miraculous". It was thought more than an hour passed between her birth and her discovery by arcade staff.
