Air Traffic Controllers suspend strike
Air Traffic Controllers managing the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos have suspended their industrial action.
The indefinite strike action, which began on Thursday led to the suspension of domestic flights at various airports across the country.
It also left dozens of passengers stranded at the airports in Lagos, Abuja and others in Nigeria. Passengers were made to disembark from already boarded flights.
However, in spite of the industrial action, international flights were still in operation.
The strike was however suspended as a result of the intervention of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
Spokesperson of NAMA, Jumoke Adetona assured the association that efforts were being made to address the issues raised by the workers.
The air traffic controllers threatened they would embark on a full-scale strike on Friday if their demands were not met.
For nearly a decade, air traffic controllers have been agitating for an upward review of their salary structure.
Earlier this year, the Association threatened to go on strike as a result of what it described as “the insensitivity of the NAMA Management to the professional and welfare matters affecting Air Traffic Controllers.”
