Al Qaeda in Fierce Competition With Islamic State, EU Official Says
Al Qaeda may try to mount a terrorist attack in Europe to prove it hasn't lost the “leadership of global jihad” to Islamic State, a European Union antiterrorism official said Saturday.
“There is a fierce competition between Al Qaeda and Daesh,” EU counterterrorism coordinator Gilles de Kerchove said at the Brussels Forum, a foreign policy conference. Islamic State is also known as Daesh.
